“…Since both pyrite oxidation and gypsum dissolution lead to an increase of SO 4 − in river waters (e.g., Berner and Berner, 1996), distinguishing between the gypsum and pyrite sources of SO 4 − in river waters is important for a reliable estimation of the fluxes of atmospheric CO 2 consumed by chemical weathering (Moon et al, 2007).
