AbstractThe importance of learning style in student’s learning performance has been gaining scholar’s attention since it was coined in the early 70s. Atmatzidou’s robotics procedure of a five-stages robotic activities was deployed in the research. This study adopts a case study research design for gathering and analyzing data as the case research allows the exploration of unforeseen phenomena and offers insights into the interdependencies among components revealed in the study. This research introduces the use of Lego Mindstorm as the mean of pro-filing a student’s behavioral patterns. Student’s behavior patterns, then, mapped into radar charts to present the extent of both Kolb and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)’s profile of student’s learning style categories. The paper contributes to theory by extending Kolb’s Learning Style instrument by mapping the pattern of learning styles identified in the research and exploring students learning experience. Dominant four-domain-indicators captured during the activities characterize Students’ learning profiles. While the Kolb Learning Style and its instrument are considered classic in hands-on literature, the use of educational robotics to elaborate students’ learning style is novel in the literature that may affect the delivery of non-technology subjects in the curricula.

The Society 5.0, advocated by the Japanese government in 2016, represents the society of the near future. In this context, the development and securing of human resources in mathematics, data science, and AI are urgent issues to promote technological innovation in the future. In this paper, a teaching material specializing in chassis of the vehicle performance in junior high school technology education was developed. The students manufactured their own teaching materials and evaluated them based on the data. The problems were identified and redesigned and remanufactured to solve them. The proposed class was practiced by students who were going to become teachers in a teacher training course, junior high school technology education. The results showed the educational effect of the material. In addition, a 13-h lesson plan that is the basis of The Lower Secondary School National Curriculum Standard was proposed.

This paper describes a robot for supporting teachers who are teaching computer programming classes. In its latest series of "Courses of Study", the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan strongly recommends the use of active learning systems and the introduction of computer programming education courses in elementary schools. Programming instruction typically includes explanations of the basic syntax used in programming languages, the application of that syntax, and related exercises. However, the teachers in programming classes commonly spend much more time correcting errors, that is, debugging their students' programs, than they spend teaching. These delays can affect the progress of programming lessons and the motivation of the participating students. With these points in mind, we have developed a teaching assistant robot that is designed to support efficient classroom management of programming classes by advising and assisting students who are encountering problems. Herein, we describe the tasks performed by the teaching assistant robot in a classroom environment in which actual programming lessons are assumed to be taught. In particular, we explain the problems encountered by students in the process of learning basic programming techniques, the causes of the problems, the method by which the teaching assistant robot identifies those problems, and the contents of advice provided by the teaching assistant robot corresponding to those problems. We also show the effectiveness of the teaching assistant robot by conducting evaluation experiments.
