PT X as one of the largest manufacturing companies in Indonesia, has a large workforce and assets, complex business processes and has an important portion in the market share in the industry. PT X has decided to implement Robotic Process Automation (RPA) initiative which is expected to make operational processes leaner and more efficient. But after it was implemented, was it true that RPA had a positive effect on PT X? This paper discusses the implementation of RPA at PT X, the effects and cost-benefit analysis of RPA implementation in the company. The analysis was conducted by focusing on the implementation of the RPA in the vendor payment process at PT X by using cost-benefit analysis based on qualitative and quantitative approaches. A qualitative approach was carried out using the interview method with key stakeholders from the implementation of the RPA coming from internal and external PT X. The quantitative approach is carried out using business process analysis and financial accounting methods. This study produces conclusions on the positive effects of the implementation of the RPA that can be seen from decrease of lead time vendor payment process up to 97.8% and decrease of Employee cost up to 55%.

Digitalization is driving the automation of accounting processes. It is estimated that up to 70% of administrative activities could be carried out by automated, i.e. rule-based sequences, which promises a considerable increase in productivity and efficiency for repetitive, standardized processes. In recent years, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has been increasingly and successfully used for such purposes. However, before implementing a RPA solution, it is essential to evaluate the automation potentials. In the literature, such evaluations are based almost exclusively on process-oriented factors, such as the frequency and duration of processes or the degree of standardization. The assessment of potential cost benefits is often carried out secondarily and on the basis of cost estimates at a higher level. In order to close this gap and to make the cost-based assessment of automation potentials more soundly assessable, this article demonstrates a corresponding approach using Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing (TD ABC). For this purpose, a typical example from accounting is used for a demonstration with a management reporting process.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has become an important technology in the context of digitalization and automation of business processes. RPA is more flexible than stable business process automation of the IT systems at the user interface (UI) level, which leads to a sustainable reduction in process costs. However, the acceptance of RPA technology in Austrian companies is still very low. The problem may refer to the shortage of perceived maturity of RPA technology and/or the inertia of the industry. Thus, this paper describes an empirical study that evaluates the attitudes of Austrian companies concerning the use of RPA in industrial processes. The theoretical basis for the evaluation is the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which is expanded by the factor of perceived maturity. After the collection of data from 251 companies, the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was conducted to assess the measurement and structural models. The study showed that perceived usefulness and perceived maturity have an important influence on RPA technology acceptance. At the same time, there is no such effect for the perceived ease of use. The R2 was 0.481 for RPA acceptance, which points out that the explanatory power of the proposed model is relatively substantial. The empirical results have implications for the managers responsible for employing RPA technology in their companies.
