Ritual characteristics of an American lawyer discourse

Abstract: The author looks at the communicative behaviour of American lawyers and stresses the importance of the persuasive emotional factor of their speeches in court in specific professional situations. The tactics and strategies of communicative behaviour of American lawyers are studied in the light of courtroom discourse rituals. The article gives a definition of "ritual" and offers opinions on its essence.
