Intense insecticide application is thought to cause a decline in bee colonies worldwide. Bees are effective pollinators in increasing the production of agricultural commodities. The stingless bee Tetragonula laeviceps (Apidae: Meliponini) is widely cultivated and found around plantations. The insecticides used in the toxicity test were imidacloprid 200 g/L, fipronil 50 g/L, lambda-cyhalothrin 25 g/L, profenofos 500 g/L, and chlorantraniliprole 50 g/L followed by a semi-field test using imidacloprid, fipronil, and profenofos insecticides on the cucumber plant. The LC50 value showed that exposure to imidacloprid, fipronil, and profenofos insecticides caused toxic effects on T. laeviceps by contact and orally. Lambda-cyhalothrin was found harmful on contact exposure, in contrast, chlorantraniliprole was harmful through oral. Classification of insecticide toxicity based on LD50 contact for imidacloprid, fipronil, lambda-cyhalothrin, and profenofos were very toxic and needed a risk assessment. However, chlorantraniliprole was classified as moderately toxic and low risk. In semi-field test results, imidacloprid and fipronil insecticides caused a significant decrease in the leave-return and bee-visiting activity on cucumber flowers. These insecticides also produced a low average yield of fruit weight. Insecticide application can affect the role of T. laeviceps as the pollinator which impacts the production of agricultural commodities.

The concept of "Stingless Bee-Friendly Local Home Garden" can be an alternative for urban landscape conservation through home gardens, especially in Depok City, which has a rapid flow of development. For this reason, a management strategy is needed as part of an effort to improve the landscape services of Depok City. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of home gardens and the potential for developing stingless bee-friendly home gardens to support the optimization of urban landscape services. The research was conducted using a field survey on sample of home gardens selected through purposive sampling methods, interviews, questionnaires, and literature studies. Based on the conditions of climate, weather, ecology, 90 samples of home gardens and respondents, Depok City has the potential to develop the concept of a honey bee-friendly home garden. These conditions can support the activity of stingless bees and provide a source of available food throughout the year. The concept of a stingless bee-friendly home garden can be achieved by presenting a diversity of food plant sources, providing bee hives, and proper home garden management. Due to climate change, many impacts occur on the sustainability of organisms, including the trigona bee. The occurrence of climate change not only affects decreasing honey production but also reduces the number of colonies. Presume that it can change the activity pattern of the trigona bee. This study aims to determine the pattern of activity demonstrated by Tetragonula laeviceps (Smith) colony in KHDTK Gunung Bromo UNS. This research was conducted in July 2021 at KHDTK Gunung Bromo UNS. The observation involved 128 colony boxes placed into four cages, namely cages A, B, C, and D. Observations on the activity of trigona bees starting from 06.00 WIB to 18.00 WIB, assuming trigona bee activity begins in the morning and end the activity outside the hive after sunset. The results showed that of the cages A, B, C, and D, the worker bees tend to be active in the morning (6-10 am) to collect nectars and resin. Before noon (10 to 12 noon), bee activities were decreasing. The activity of the worker bees increased between 12 to 2 pm and decreased again after that time slot. The food source most favored by trigona bees: Pinus merkusii (rp), Artocarpus heterophyllus (r), Spathiphyllum wallisii (np), and Xanthostemon chrysanthus (np). Resin extractions are very needed for bees as batumen materials, and this is due to natural enemies (lizards, ants, vespa wasps, and spiders) that appear around the cage.
