Risk variables of external apical root resorption during orthodontic treatment

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: External apical root resorption (EARR) is an adverse outcome of the orthodontic treatment. So far, no single or associated factor has been identified as responsible for EARR due to tooth movement. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the association of risk variables (age, gender, extraction for orthodontic treatment and Angle classification) with EARR and orthodontic treatment. METHOD: The sample (n=72) was divided into two groups according to presence (n=32) or absence (n=40) of EARR in maxillary… Show more

“…In the study group the youngest patient was 9, and the oldest one -37, while in the control group respectively 11 and 43. Some researchers also did not prove any influence of age on root resorption [35][36][37]. Only Sameshima and Sinclair observed that resorption is more common in adults than in children [38].…”

“…Various studies prove that there is no relationship between root resorption and type of malocclusion [35,37,39,40]. In the study conducted by Harris et al, skeletal class was evaluated on the basis of ANB angle and Wits appraisal (AOBO).…”
