“…Similar estimates were presented in reports from New Zealand (1983 -1986) 9 and England (1978 -1985) 10 . The stillbirth rate in the expectant arm of the Canadian study was similar at two fetal deaths in 1700 women (1.18 per 1000) 2 .…”

“…The risk of stillbirth was compared between groups using time-to-event analyses in which week of gestation was used as the timescale, antepartum stillbirth due to the specified cause was defined as the event, and all other births were treated as censored. In this method, ongoing pregnancies are the denominator, 18 but censoring due to birth is accounted for and multivariate analysis can be done. 19 This approach allows assessment of the relative risk accounting for variation in the duration of pregnancy, and is appropriate for situations in which not all individuals would ultimately experience the event.…”

“…For unexplained stillbirths at or after 34 weeks' gestation, the median birthweight in women with a previous caesarean delivery was smaller than in women whose first birth was vaginal (2820 g [IQR 2240-3062] vs 3110 [2540-3480], respectively, p=0路04), and more were at or below the fifth percentile for gestational age (12 18 [26%] of 69, respectively, p=0路04). The overall autopsy rate in the 206 unexplained stillbirths in the whole study group was 77路2%.…”

“…For example, diabetic and hypertensive disorders have long been associated with higher rates of term stillbirth, cesarean delivery and neonatal intensive care unit admission, [1][2][3][4][5] and these associations have been influential in the development of high-risk obstetric management protocols. 6 Other investigations have identified an association between post-term pregnancy (>42 weeks gestation) and perinatal mortality, 7,8 and these associations have promoted the development of antenatal testing protocols and the determination of the timing for post-dates induction. 9,10 More recently, associations have been identified between delivery at increasing gestational age during the term period of pregnancy (37 to 42 weeks) and increasing risk of adverse birth outcomes.…”
