Risk of extrapyramidal side effects comparing continuous vs. bolus intravenous metoclopramide administration: a systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomised controlled trials

Abstract: Continuous infusion is an effective intervention to reduce in patients discomfort caused by the extrapyramidal side effects of metoclopramide. Clinicians also reduce the time spent on alleviating these unwanted effects.

“…The invention of novel small molecules that are both potent and selective antitumor agents continues to be a serious challenge to medicinal chemistry researchers (Zhong et al, 2014;Iyer, 2015;Lin et al, 2019). In spite of the indispensable advances accomplished over the last decades in the design and development of assorted anticancer agents, current accessible treatments still have two significant limitations, the primary being the shortage of selectivity for cancer tissues (Shafei et al, 2017), inflicting unwanted side effects (Cavero-Redondo et al, 2015;Brewer et al, 2016;Decalf et al, 2017). The second is the acquisition of multiple-drug resistance by cancer cells, rendering them unresponsive to standard therapy (Wu et al, 2014).…”

“…A continuous rate infusion of metoclopramide would not result in peaks and troughs in plasma concentration and may be safer than injections administered intermittently, although the evidence for this based on studies of human patients is not strong (Cavero‐Redondo et al . ). This author also wonders, as do Agass et al .…”

This author also wonders, as do Agass et al (2017), if this filly was more prone to developing CNS problems because it appeared to be agitated before metoclopramide was administered and had a history of unpredictable behaviour.…”
