Risk factors for macular pucker after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery

Abstract: Macular pucker, also known as an epiretinal membrane, sometimes forms after surgical repair of a rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and can decrease visual acuity and cause aniseikonia. However, few reports are evaluating the risk factors of macular pucker using multivariate analysis. To evaluate the risk factors for macular pucker after RRD surgery, 226 patients who underwent RRD surgery and were monitored for greater than 12 months (23.2 ± 6.4 months) after surgery were analyzed retrospectively. Of thes… Show more

“…Further, the ERM development in our study did not differ in a statistically signi cant trend between the two groups (p = 0.254). In a recent study, ERM development during follow-up was found to be 28% in the SB Group and 34%in the PPV Group, respectively, and again was not signi cant between the two groups (p = 0.536) 26, 27 .…”

“…E piretinal membrane (ERM), also known as macular pucker, is a fibrous non-vascular cellular membrane proliferating over the macula region, which can cause decreased visual acuity and metamorphopsia [1][2] . In general, ERM includes two types: idiopathic ERMs without a clearly identified cause and secondary ERMs.…”
