Urban Large-scale Public Spaces (ULPS) are important areas of urban culture and economic development, which are also places of the potential safety hazard. ULPS safety assessment has played a crucial role in the theory and practice of urban sustainable development. The primary objective of this study is to explore the interaction between ULPS safety risk and its influencing factors. In the first stage, an index sensitivity analysis method was applied to calculate and identify the safety risk assessment index system. Next, a Delphi method and information entropy method were also applied to collect and calculate the weight of risk assessment indicators. In the second stage, a Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) method with evidence fusion technique was utilized to analyze the interaction between the ULPS safety risk level and the multiple-index variables, measured by four observed performance indicators, i.e., environmental factor, human factor, equipment factor, and management factor. Finally, an empirical study of DST approach for ULPS safety performance analysis was presented.

The safety state of road network in the bridge-tunnel groups is an important factor in evaluating road traffic safety. This article describes a case study simulating brittleness behavior of road traffic safety statue in the bridge-tunnel groups. First, the safety state of road network and brittleness behavior characteristics are analyzed; second, the relationship between brittleness behavior and safety entropy is also introduced, and the collapse process of the travel system of road traffic network in the bridge-tunnel groups is simulated, which is based on the adaptive agent digraph theory. Finally, the rear-end accident data from Liu'an mountainous freeway are verified through the reasonability and feasibility of adaptive agent digraph theory. The case study has shown that there is a certain delay in the collapse of whole system; the key of vertex collapse will lead to the collapse of the whole system in a short time; the initial value of each vertex has a significant impact on the collapse of the whole system. The findings in this study provide scientific guidance to potentially improve the current mountainous freeway design and traffic management policy.

A quantitative risk analysis (QRA) regarding dangerous goods vehicles (DGVs) running through road tunnels was set up. Peak hourly traffic volumes (VHP), percentage of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), and failure of the emergency ventilation system were investigated in order to assess their impact on the risk level. The risk associated with an alternative route running completely in the open air and passing through a highly populated urban area was also evaluated. The results in terms of social risk, as F/N curves, show an increased risk level with an increase the VHP, the percentage of HGVs, and a failure of the emergency ventilation system. The risk curves of the tunnel investigated were found to lie both above and below those of the alternative route running in the open air depending on the type of dangerous goods transported. In particular, risk was found to be greater in the tunnel for two fire scenarios (no explosion). In contrast, the risk level for the exposed population was found to be greater for the alternative route in three possible accident scenarios associated with explosions and toxic releases. Therefore, one should be wary before stating that for the transport of dangerous products an itinerary running completely in the open air might be used if the latter passes through a populated area. The QRA may help decisionmakers both to implement additional safety measures and to understand whether to allow, forbid, or limit circulation of DGVs.
