Ring‐opening polymerization of β‐butyrolactone catalyzed by efficient magnesium and zinc complexes derived from tridentate anilido‐aldimine ligand

Abstract: Magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn) complexes incorporating tridentate anilido‐aldimine ligand, (E)‐2, 6‐diisopropyl‐N‐(2‐((2‐(piperidin‐1‐yl)ethylimino)methyl)phenyl)aniline (AAPip‐H, 1), were synthesized and structurally characterized. The reaction of AAPip‐H (1) with MgnBu2 or ZnEt2 in equivalent proportions afforded the monomeric complex [(AAPip)MgnBu] (2) or [(AAPip)ZnEt] (3), respectively. The coordination modes of these complexes differ in the solid state: Mg complex 2 shows a four‐coordinated and distorted te… Show more

“…In addition, the biodegradable nature of PLLA has also given a special position to it in the development of new materials in this century 3–6. Similar nature has been expressed by many aliphatic polyesters such as poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB),7–9 poly(butylene succinate) (PBS),10 etc. However, little attention has been paid to poly(12‐hydroxystearate) (P(12HS)) that can readily be synthesized from 12‐hydroxystearic acid (12‐HSA) that is a long‐chain hydroxy fatty acid originated from castor oil 11–13.…”

“…In an effort to produce more controlled polymers by crowding the coordination sphere, metal complexes supported by chelating ligands have been studied extensively. Many different metals have been studied including tin, zinc (18,19), calcium (20), magnesium (21), lanthanides (22), group IV metals (23,24), indium (25) and aluminum.…”

“…Anal. Calcd for C 29 H 40 N 4 : C, 78.33 H, 9. (7). AlMe 3 (3.0 mL, 1.0 M in toluene, 2.1 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of 1 (1.76 g, 3.0 mmol) in 20 mL of toluene at À78 C. The reaction mixture was held at this temperature for 1 h and then allowed to warm to room temperature and transferred via cannula into an ampoule.…”
