Ridge-Loaded Small Round-Ended Slot for Waveguide Slot-Array Antenna

Abstract: In this paper, a small round-ended slot loaded by double ridges on the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide is presented as an element for a waveguide slot-array antenna(WSAA). By properly adjusting the ridge dimension, a resonance of the slot at a desired frequency can be achieved. The resonant length of the proposed slot is about 0.26   (free space wave length) at the resonance frequency. The proposed resonant slot has some advantageous properties, such as small size, small resonant conductance, and short… Show more

“…The dumbbell-shaped slots have been employed to design the slotted array antennas since several decades earlier [8]. It was also well-understood that the resonant length of the dumbbell-shaped slot antennas is much smaller than the round-ended slot antennas [8,47,48]. However, such type of slot antennas was mainly employed because of their more straightforward realization as well as the higher mechanical strength of the implemented antennas [8].…”

“…Furthermore, slot antennas in different shapes have also been proposed for employing in slotted antennas. [13][14][15][16][17] Several design methods have been proposed in the literature for designing the slotted array antennas fed by the rectangular waveguides. [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26] Depending on the size of the array (number of slots in the array), they can be divided into two categories.…”
