Ridge coplanar waveguide for optical amplitude modulation

Abstract: Abstruct-A novel structure called ridge coplanar waveguide Outer Electrode Metallic Strip is DroDosed for Mach-Zhender ontical modulator. Numerical I I -1modeling using a two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (2D-FDTD) algorithm has shown that a ridge coplanar waveguide on Y-cut LiNbO3 substrate without Si02 buffer layer yields very high efficiency of modulation over a wide frequency bandwidth.

“…Many microwave diplexers have been described in the literature. However, they are mostly micro-strip or stripline diplexers [2][3][4][5], which may not be directly applicable to portable telephones, due to their large sizes and difficult implementation with multi-layer structure using LTCC for compactness. Some lumped-element diplexers with maximally flat (Butterworth) response that are suitable for LTCC fabrication have been reported [6,7].…”

“…Different kinds of numerical analyses involving frequency analyses have been presented to simulate the microwave parameters of the coplanar waveguide (CPW) electrode configuration and to deduce the modulator performances [1,2]. More recently, the FDTD algorithm has been employed for the analysis of CPW on an anisotropic substrate without buffer layer in 2D [3] and 3D [4].…”
