Abstract: The sea buckthorn, Hippophae rhamnoides L., is a thorny, nitrogen-fixing, dioecious, and deciduous shrub which has been attacked by a catastrophic outbreak of Holcocerus hippophaecolus in the 'Three North Areas' of China recently.
