Rhodamine‐Based Chromo‐/Fluorogenic Dual Signalling Probe for Selective Recognition of HgII with Potential Applications for INHIBIT Logic Devices and Cell‐Imaging Studies

Abstract: A new rhodamine-based dual signaling probe (L 3 ) has been found to display quick responses through visible colorimetric changes as well as fluorogenic properties on selective 1:1 binding to Hg 2+ , as delineated by absorption and fluorescence titrations as well as by JobЈs method and ESI-MS + studies. The fluorescent probe L 3 displays a 252-fold fluorescence enhancement on binding to Hg 2+ . A Benesi-Hilderband fit of the absorption titration data gives K d = (32.01 Ϯ 0.74) μM and a 1:1 binding stoichiometry… Show more

“…A rhodamine‐based dual signalling compound 36 was synthesised for the optical detection of Hg 2+ ions . The compound displayed a 252‐fold enhancement in the fluorescence at 553 nm in presence of Hg 2+ ion; and the enhancement was completely reversible upon treating the compound 36 :Hg 2+ complex with I − ions (Figure ).…”

“…Another example is for Hg 2+ sensing via the use of the rhodamine-based chemosensor 20 reported by Ali group (Figure 15). 46 The formation of 1:1 coordination metal complexes is signalled by both colorimetric and fluorogenic changes in organic-water mixtures. In addition, the reversible binding of 20 with Hg 2+ by addition of KI offered the potential design of INHIBIT logic devices.…”
