Rhizobium strains competitiveness on bean nodulation in Cerrado soils

Abstract: -The objective of this work was to identify the most competitive and effective Rhizobium strains in order to increase common bean yield by nitrogen fixation as alternative or complementation to the nitrogen fertilization. Competitiveness tests were lead in axenic conditions, in Cerrado soil pots and in three field experiments, with native Rhizobium strains that were previously identified, according to their effectiveness and genetic variability. The identification of strains in nodules was performed using sero… Show more

“…These results agreed with those of Soares et al (2006), in which relatively high population of rhizobia was found in an acid soil of Minas Gerais State. However, the absence of a rhizobia population in acid Brazilian Cerrado soil, observed by Raposeiras et al (2006), suggests that these microorganisms exhibit high levels of variability in tropical conditions.…”

“…Several approaches have been used to obtain new rhizobia strains which exhibit better biological nitrogen fi xation responses on common bean. Typically, these strains are evaluated individually Soares et al, 2006) or in mixture with other strains (Hassan et al, 2004;Hafeez et al, 2005;Raposeiras et al, 2006).…”
