“…As has been the case in other countries, most of the past conodont investigations in China (e.g., An 1981, 1985, Chen & Zhang 1984, An & Ding 1985, Ni & Li 1987, An & Zheng 1990, Gao 1991, Wang & Bergström 1995, Wang et al 1996, Wang & Zhou 1998, Zhang 1998, Zhao et al 2000, Zhen et al 2007, 2009, Chen et al 2011 have had a biostratigraphic and taxonomic focus. Other aspects of conodont research, such as palaeoecology and conodont animal palaeobiology, have been dealt with in far fewer studies.…”

“…As such, the influence of terrigenous clasts on the research samples is ruled out. The samples have positive and negative δ 13 C PDB values, most of which are negative and range from −1.60‰ to 0.50‰. The negative δ 18 O PDB values of the samples only vary between −9.00‰ and −2.00‰.…”

“…Derry et al [25] argue that dolomitization is not a precondition of carbonate rocks that are unaffected by diagenesis. The δ 13 C values of carbonate rocks represent carbon isotope contents at the Proto-Oceanic level when their δ 18 O PDB values are more than −10‰ [26]. These carbon isotope contents are associated with sea level changes and vary between −5‰ and 5‰.…”

“…In the Honghuayuan Section, P. honghuayuanensis occurs abundantly in the top part of the Honghuayuan Formation, but neither P. honghuayuanensis nor O. communis was recovered from the basal part of the overlying Meitan Formation. However, in the Ganxi Section of Yanhe, P. honghuayuanensis was recovered from the very top of the Honghuayuan Formation (Zhen et al 2005(Zhen et al , 2007b, and O. communis was reported from the basal part of the overlying Meitan Formation (Zhen et al 2007a). As both species were recorded within a very short interval in the Ganxi section, it is considered likely that they might have been adapted to different environments, in particular water depth or temperature.…”
