“…As has been the case in other countries, most of the past conodont investigations in China (e.g., An 1981, 1985, Chen & Zhang 1984, An & Ding 1985, Ni & Li 1987, An & Zheng 1990, Gao 1991, Wang & Bergström 1995, Wang et al 1996, Wang & Zhou 1998, Zhang 1998, Zhao et al 2000, Zhen et al 2007, 2009, Chen et al 2011 have had a biostratigraphic and taxonomic focus. Other aspects of conodont research, such as palaeoecology and conodont animal palaeobiology, have been dealt with in far fewer studies.…”

“…The conodont zonation used here is a combination of the zonation schemes by An (1981, An et al (1981An et al ( , 1985, Dong (1985), Zhang (1998), Wang & Bergström (1995), Zhen et al (2009) and and it follows as closely as possible to the original definitions (Fig. 2).…”

“…The age of the Fenxiang Formation originally was interpreted as late Tremadocian (e.g., Wu et al 2010). However, the occurrence of the conodont Acodus triangularis in Bed 13 at Tianjialing indicates that at least the upper part of the formation is early Floian (Arenig) in age (Zhen et al 2009, Baliński et al 2012. The lithological and palaeontological characteristics of the formation suggest frequent changes of the sedimentary regime from low-energy, deep-water basin to energetic, shallow-water carbonate platform.…”
