“…11 Amphotericin B along with aggressive surgical debridement remains the mainstay of treatment, particularly in the presence of significant comorbidities. 11,12 Due to the severe side effect profile of amphotericin B, a liposomal form of the drug may be considered, particularly in combination with micafungin. 1114 There is also a potential role for hyperbaric oxygen as an adjunctive therapy that has been described.…”

“…Frequency of exenteration has not been compared between the two groups in most of the publications 9,15,17,18,20 . On the other hand, the number of non‐diabetics was not high enough (usually less than 10) to draw a conclusion in other studies 7,8,10,11 . However, its frequency has been 11%‐42% in diabetics 3,7,8,10,11,16 and 0%‐40% in non‐diabetics 7,8,10,11,16 .…”

“…Nearly half of the patients with mucormycosis die 2,5,6 . Some reported better 7,8 and some worse 9‐11 outcomes for diabetic ROCM as compared with the other immunocompromised patients. On the other hand, no study has previously compared diabetic and non‐diabetic ROCM with regard to the presenting symptom, exenteration rate and visual outcome.…”

“…44 Continuous positive airway pressure therapy in diabetic patients with obstructive sleep apnea may not improve metabolic control unless there is also weight loss, at least in short-term follow-up. 48 Pulmonary mucormycosis mimics invasive aspergillosis and is found mostly in patients with diabetes, hematologic malignancy, or organ transplantation or in patients on glucocorticoid or deferoxamine therapy. Angioinvasion is a hallmark of infections with mucormycosis.…”
