Rheological, Thermal and Dynamic Mechanical Studies of the Ldpe/Perlite Nanocomposites

Abstract: Nanocomposites based on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and nano perlite were prepared at various perlite contents via melt mixing in a twin-screw extruder. Rheological measurements, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) tests were carried out on the nanocomposites. The results confirmed the establishment of interactions between LDPE matrix and treated nano perlite. In addition, dynamic mechanical properties and thermal stability of the treated nanocomposites were impr… Show more

“…Sahraeian et al performed the production of low density polyethylene (LDPE) based composites melt blended with perlite. They postulated that increases in mechanical, morphological, dynamic mechanical and thermal properties were observed after surface treatment of PER particles [19][20][21]. Several research groups conducted works dealing with PER filled polypropylene (PP) composites.…”

“…Furthermore, increasing the PExp concentration affects significantly the density due to its content, porosity and to the low granulometry of the perlite 41,42,48 . Even so, the density of the TPS PExp samples showed lower results than the TPS reference.…”

“…As with VMT, when subjected to thermal treatment PT particles expand up to 20 times in volume, due to the water vaporization [25]. Applications of polyethylene prepared with the addition of PT have been reported previously [26,27]. Recently, Karaca et al [28] showed that PT enhanced the thermal stability and sound absorption coefficients of polyesters.…”
