Rheological properties of a β-1,3-polyglucuronic acid derivative from 4-acetamido-TEMPO-mediated oxidation of curdlan

Abstract: The rheological properties of a carboxylic curdlan bearing a b-1,3-polyglucuronic acid structure were investigated as a function of concentration and temperature. Carboxylic curdlan solutions exhibited shear thinning behavior that became more evident with increasing concentration. This behavior was further described by a consistent index (k) and a flow behavior index (n) based on the power law model.Activation energy (E a ) decreased with increasing concentration, as calculated by the Arrhenius rule. The mecha… Show more

“…If tan  > 1, the material has predominant viscous behaviour, while materials with tan  < 1 predominantly exhibit elastic behaviour. 50 CF mucus exhibits gel-like behaviour with a predominant elastic component (tan  < 1) ( Fig. 2a), which means that the ciliary beating stretches the mucus rather than making it flow, resulting in mucus accumulation in the airways.…”

“…In addition, the flow behavior of the gel is dependent on the nature of oil and molecular structure (Figure ). In angular frequency dependence, the nonlinear parallel nature of G ′ and G ″ revealed the existence of a viscoelastic solid like gel. ,,, …”

“…In angular frequency dependence, the nonlinear parallel nature of G′ and G″ revealed the existence of a viscoelastic solid like gel. 68,45,69,70 Another important aspect in non-Newtonian fluids is the critical strain level (γ c ); in simple words, up to the critical strain value, the gel remains intact in structure, whereas beyond γ c deformations in the structure occur and G′ starts to decline. 71 Below γ c the material behaves like non-Newtonian fluids, and after this point, deformation occurs and the place where G′ and G″ crossover occurs the material will lose its highly ordered structure (Figure 4).…”

“…In this study, PEO was used as the base material mixed with cardlan gum, and electrospinning was performed to prepare PEO/curdlan nanofiber films. After adding an appropriate amount of curdlan gum, the viscosity and conductivity of the solution can be improved [ 17 ]. The increase in the conductivity of the solution can make the solution easier to be stretched during the electrospinning process, and obtain a finer and smoother fiber filament.…”
