Rheological and Frictional Properties of Lithium Complex Grease with Graphene Additives

Abstract: Few-layer graphene (FLG) was added as a nano-additive to lithium complex grease (LCG) to explore the influence of FLG on the microstructure, viscoelasticity, friction and wear properties of LCG. Studies have found that the addition of FLG makes the microstructure of the thickener more compact, which in turn leads to an increase in the viscoelasticity of LCG. FLG additives can improve the viscosity-temperature properties of the grease and change the elastic deformation response to temperature changes. Among the… Show more

“…G″ represents the energy lost in the form of heat when a grease is sheared or stressed. 37 It can be found from Figure 5b that the G″ of castor oil is much larger than G′ in the temperature range of 20−80 °C, indicating that the material mainly undergoes viscous deformation, which means the material is liquid. For the oleogel, G′ and G″ were close to each other.…”

“…Jiusheng et al prepared novel nanomagnetic grease that exhibited favorable lubricating properties; they also analyzed the interaction between the magnetic grease and the original grease to determine the mechanism by which the magnetic grease provided lubrication. The antiwear and EP properties of the greases were improved massively in some cases. ,, …”

“…Greases are widely recognized as excellent lubricants due to their efficient lubrication and ability to reduce the wear and friction between surfaces. Different types of greases, such as lithium grease, calcium grease, and Bentone grease, are utilized in mechanical applications based on specific needs and conditions. Recent innovations in the field include nanoparticles, which have distinct properties compared with bulk materials. Nanoparticles can be synthesized through mechanical or chemical processes.…”

“…Lubrication oils, plastic greases and solid lubricants can be distinguished. Currently, there is a tendency to replace lubricating oils and plastic greases with solid lubricants [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. Oils and plastic greases can pose a serious problem in some applications, for example, at high temperatures, when they may evaporate.…”
