This paper proposes a model to improve security, by controlling who accesses the University of Zambia Campus, Student Hostels and Offices. The proposed model combines Barcode, RFID, and Biometrics Technology to automatically identify Students and Staff. A component to track visitors' physical location and movements in real time is also included to ensure visitors go to authorized places. A baseline study based on International Standard Organisation 27002 standard was conducted to measure the level of security at UNZA. This result shows that UNZA has uncontrolled access into the campus environment, student hostels and offices. The results from this study were used to develop the proposed model. When the RFID reader installed at any of the entrances detects an RFID tag number, the system requests for a fingerprint scan and scans the database for a match. If both RFID card and fingerprint belong to a registered Student or Staff, the entrance door or Turnstile is released open and access is granted otherwise access is denied. In case of the visitor the National ID number is tied to the RFID tag number. The visitors' RFID tag has a GPS module fixed to it. Once the visitor is granted access their movements and physical location are tracked in real time.

This paper focuses on research works of control engineering field and aims at impenetrable security system especially in case of medication, jewelry, documents & others valuable items and mandatorily in the higher intelligence agency. Here, a developed security system with automatic sensing is introduced by the use of both Radio frequency identification (RFID) card tagging system and fingerprint sensing biometric security system to maintain the valid access of a person to a secured place. RFID reader and fingerprint sensing device work as a locker of the security and RFID tag and a validly ratified finger is considered as the key of the locker. In case of access granted entity, door bar gets opened with a servo mechanism system connected with door bar. On the contrary, no action is taken as cavalcade if the entity is considered invalid in the sensing system. These knock out the necessity for keeping track of keys or remembering a combination of password or pin. A prototype of the security system is also designed and the performance of it is tested. The satisfactory results of its performance show the validity of the system and indicate a better solution for the future security system.

Purpose of the Study: This study examines the evaluation of Automatic Lane Barriers (ALB) system implementation on the campus community. The objectives of this study are to identify the differences between male and female on their evaluations towards the ALB system; and to determine the differences between staff and student on their attitude, behaviour, perceived usefulness (PU), and perceived ease of use (PEU) towards the ALB system. Methodology:This study applies the quantitative research design using the survey method where self-administered questionnaires are used as the instrument for data collection. A total of 271 respondents participated in this study. Main Findings:The findings show that, on the whole, campus community have a positive evaluation pertaining to perceived usefulness of the ALB system implementation only. There is no significant difference between male and female respondents on all variables while there are significant differences between staff and student towards the ALB system for all variables concerned. Applications of this Study:This study adapted the items in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to a newly implemented Automatic Lane Barriers (ALB) installation to differentiate the acceptance of ALB system according to gender and designation. The main reason for such implementation is to increase security and safety measures for the campus community. Novelty/Originality of this Study:This study is done immediately after the ALB is enforced. Thus, the findings act as the benchmark for the acceptance of any new innovation for the campus community in the future.
