Abstract: A number of studies have addressed the dimensionality and the measurement invariance of the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy scale (LSRP; Levenson, Kiehl, & Fitzpatrick, 1995). However, previous investigations exclusively relied on North American samples and mainly on statistical methods that assume data as normally and continuously distributed. The aim of this study was to further investigate dimensionality and differential item functioning for gender in the 26-item LSRP scale in a Brazilian population-based … Show more

“…They ultimately concluded that the two-factor model is superior. Data from a Brazilian sample also support the use of the two-factor model (Hauck-Filho & Teixeira, 2014). Given the somewhat discrepant findings across and within studies, it is clear that there is much still to be learned about the psychometrics of this measure.…”

“…Some have been unable to replicate a two-factor solution unless modifications to the model are made (i.e., allow Item 26 to load on both factors; Brinkley, Schmitt, Smith, & Newman, 2001; Lynam, Whiteside, & Jones, 1999). Others have argued that the two-factor model is satisfactory (Hauck-Filho & Teixeira, 2014). Brinkley, Diamond, Magaletta, and Heigel (2008) reported a three-factor solution in a sample of female inmates (LSRP-Egocentricity [10 items], LSRP-Callousness [4 items], and LSRP-Antisocial [5 items]), which has been validated by other researchers in diverse samples (e.g., male and female undergraduates in the United States, China, and Australia; male and female community samples in Italy and Australia; male correctional sample in the United States; Christian & Sellbom, 2016; Sellbom, 2011; Shou, Sellbom, & Han, 2016; Somma, Fossati, Patrick, Maffei, & Borroni, 2014).…”

“…Gummelt, Anestis, and Carbonell (2012) found that the LSRP items vary in their ability to distinguish among undergraduate students with varying levels of psychopathy, with more than half of the items demonstrating differential item functioning (DIF) between genders. Using a Brazilian community sample, Hauck-Filho and Teixeira (2014) evaluated the extent to which items in the primary and secondary psychopathy subscales fit the Unidimensional Rating Scale model (RSM; Andrich, 1978). Results showed support for the two-factor model in this sample, with minimal DIF between genders.…”
