Review on fractional vortex beam

Abstract: As an indispensable complement to an integer vortex beam, the fractional vortex beam has unique physical properties such as radially notched intensity distribution, complex phase structure consisting of alternating charge vortex chains, and more sophisticated orbital angular momentum modulation dimension. In recent years, we have noticed that the fractional vortex beam was widely used for complex micro-particle manipulation in optical tweezers, improving communication capacity, controllable edge enhancement of… Show more

“…Remarkable efforts are being applied to studies of the PSs dynamics in non-linear media [115,116] and, more generally, to identification of mechanisms determining the evolution of nongeneric singularities into stable generic systems. Particularly, the PS analogs of the "fractional optical vortex" [17] reveal interesting and fundamental mathematical attributes of their "life" [117].…”

“…In the standard symmetric vortex of unitary charge, the OAM per particle is unitary as well, while if the core is offaxis, also leading to asymmetric shapes, the OAM per particle can be fractional 7,42,43 . It is therefore interesting to find what is the OAM per particle in our structured case, that not only displays offset vortex cores but also spiral patterns, that are furthermore reshaping in time.…”
