Sarcopenia is a disease of old age characterized by decreased muscle mass and strength. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) promote muscle mass synthesis and increase muscle strength. We aimed to develop a dietary amino acid database and to examine the association between BCAA intake and handgrip strength in Korean older adults. Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2014–2018 were used. Overall, 4852 participants aged ≥65 years were included in the study. Demographic, lifestyle, and health data were obtained through interviews and questionnaires. The 24-h recall method was used to assess dietary intake. An amino acid database was established using the 9th revision of the Korean Standard Food Composition Table. The mean handgrip strength was estimated from triplicate measurements obtained using the dominant hand. Multivariable linear regression analysis was performed to assess the association between BCAA intake and handgrip strength. Grains greatly contributed to amino acid intake; however, a significant negative association was observed between handgrip strength and increased BCAA intake through grains. In the fully adjusted model, leucine intake and handgrip strength showed a positive association. Thus, consuming BCAAs (especially leucine) via a variety of food sources can help maintain muscle health in older people.

The spread of American Bullfrog has a significant impact on the surrounding ecosystem. It is important to study the mechanisms of their spreading so that proper mitigation can be applied when needed. This study analyzes data from national surveys on bullfrog distribution. We divided the data into 25 regional clusters. To assess the spread within each cluster, we constructed temporal sequences of spatial distribution using the agglomerative clustering method. We employed Elementary Cellular Automata (ECA) to identify rules governing the changes in spatial patterns. Each cell in the ECA grid represents either the presence or absence of bullfrogs based on observations. For each cluster, we counted the number of presence location in the sequence to quantify spreading intensity. We used a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to learn the ECA rules and predict future spreading intensity by estimating the expected number of presence locations over 400 simulated generations. We incorporated environmental factors by obtaining habitat suitability maps using Maxent. We multiplied spreading intensity by habitat suitability to create an overall assessment of bullfrog invasion risk. We estimated the relative spreading assessment and classified it into four categories: rapidly spreading, slowly spreading, stable populations, and declining populations.

For successful new product development, it is crucial to devise product attributes and marketing strategies appropriate for the expected consumption contexts. However, the impacts of product attributes and marketing factors on sales across the various consumption contexts are scarcely examined. Thus, this study aims to compare the product attributes and marketing factors affecting the sales of new frozen cooked rice (meal) and frozen dumpling (snack) products, which have different consumption contexts. This study used Nielsen point‐of‐sale data on new frozen cooked rice and dumpling products in Korea for weeks 1–48 in 2020. The results reveal distinct key factors influencing sales for each product category. The key factors driving the sales of frozen cooked rice are formulation, recipe type, package type, weight diversity, and distribution channel diversity. The key factors driving the sales of frozen dumplings are the main ingredient, dumpling shape, sauce flavor, claim, weight diversity, bundling promotion, and distribution channel diversity. These findings contribute to new product development by increasing the understanding of product attributes and marketing factors in different consumption contexts.Practical ApplicationsThis manuscript contributes to the field of food consumer studies by comparing the impact of product attributes and marketing factors on frozen food sales in different consumption contexts, such as meals and snacks. The information obtained from this study provides useful insights for researchers in the sensory and gastronomic fields, as well as for food experts and practitioners. The results of this study can be of interest to the gastronomy sector, as we highlighted sensory factors such as main ingredients, sauce flavors, recipe types, and formulations as product attributes that influence consumers' food purchases. These findings can aid researchers and new product developers in the food industry in developing innovative foods that can potentially be incorporated into the sensory experience.
