Review of Research on Storage Development

Abstract: The development of computer external storage has undergone the continuous change of perforated cassettes, tapes, floppy disks, hard disks, optical disks and flash disks. Internal memory has gone through the development of drum storage, Williams tube, mercury delay line, and magnetic core storage, until the emergence of semiconductor memory. Later RAM and ROM were born. RAM was divided into DRAM and SRAM. Due to its structure and cost advantages, DRAM has gradually developed into the widely used DDR series. At … Show more

“…The first memory concept was realised by Gustav Tauschek in 1932 with the invention of drum memory, which is made up of a huge tube-shaped container with a covering of ferromagnetic elements. 1,2 As system memory develops over time, it ultimately transforms into other types of memory such as delay line memory, 3 magnetic drums and core memory, 4 twister memory, 5 bubble memory, 6,7 and today's frequently applied dynamic random access memory (RAM). 8 Nevertheless, the development of memory storage is necessary to store the data retrieved from the system memory.…”
