Review: Modification of Nanocellulose as Conjugate of Infection-Causing Antibacterial Hydrogel

Abstract: Infection is the process of entering and reproducing microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites that cause tissue injury. Some of the common types of bacteria that play a role in wound infection are Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus epidermis. The antibacterial able to inhibit bacterial growth by inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis, increasing the permeability of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane, and interfering with the normal bacterial pro… Show more

“…The mechanism of secondary metabolites as antibacterials, namely tannins, works by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase and DNA topoisomerase enzymes so that bacterial cells cannot form 24,25 . Likewise, flavonoids function by forming complex compounds with extracellular and dissolving proteins, which then disrupt the bacterial cell membrane and lead to the release of intracellular chemicals 26,27 . It is supported by saponin chemicals and has a method of action involving the reduction of surface tension, which results in enhanced permeability or cell leakage and the release of intracellular substances 28 .…”
