Revealing the crystal facet effect on N2O formation during the NH3-SCR over α-MnO2 catalysts

Abstract: High-index facet of α-MnO2 (310) exhibits the best NH3-SCR catalytic performance and highest N2 selectivity compared to the (100) and (110) facets.

“…Then, the N 2 O formation for different crystal phases 2 of 15 of manganese oxide (α-MnO 2 , β-MnO 2 , γ-MnO 2 and σ-MnO 2 ) catalysts during a lowtemperature NH 3 -SCR reaction was investigated in our study using DRIFT measurement, which generated a higher content of N 2 O even at a low temperature [11]. Guo et al [12] investigated the atomic-level mechanism of N 2 O formation on the α-MnO 2 catalyst via DFT calculations and thermodynamics/kinetic analysis and pointed out that the (310) plane of α-MnO 2 owned the highest N 2 selectivity by avoiding NH 3 dissociation. Some studies have attempted to enhance the catalyst activity and N 2 selectivity at the same times.…”
