Retrospective study of COVID-19 seroprevalence among tissue donors at the onset of the outbreak before implementation of strict lockdown measures in France

Abstract: Background The COVID-19 pandemic has altered organ and tissue donations as well as transplantation practices. SARS-CoV-2 serological tests could help in the selection of donors. We assessed COVID-19 seroprevalence in a population of tissue donors, at the onset of the outbreak in France, before systematic screening of donors for SARS-CoV-2 RNA. Methods 235 tissue donors at the Lille Tissue Bank between November 1, 2019 and March 16, 2020 were included. Archived serum samples we… Show more

“…Many studies have sought to define the antibody response following SARS-CoV-2 infection ( 14 , 15 ). These include studies on hospitalized COVID-19 patients ( 16 19 ), asymptomatic individuals ( 20 , 21 ), and retrospective serological studies ( 22 25 ). The vast majority of infected individuals seroconvert and generate IgA, IgM, and IgG-specific antibodies within 3 weeks of infection ( 15 ).…”

“…For articles published after late 2020, the age ranges were narrower than in articles published at the beginning of the pandemic. Since the emergence of the virus, young populations have also been found to have high seroprevalence and should not be overlooked [40,96]. The impact of social disadvantage was documented in the general population and blood donors in a comparison of seroprevalence according to income [32,47,68,104,126,[129][130][131][132][133][134] or education level [18,19,20,47,48,53,57,68,82,99,[130][131][132][133][134][135][136][137][138].…”
