En önemli konjenital gelişimsel bozukluklardan biri olan dudak damak yarığı, primer damak oluşumu sırasında adezyon eksikliğine bağlı olarak fetal dönemin başında oluşur. Dudak damak yarıklı hastalarda maksiller sinüzit yaygın olarak görüldüğü için son zamanlarda bu hastaların maksiller sinüsleri ile ilgili çalışmalar artmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, sendromsuz ve sağlıklı kontrol grubu bireylerin maksiller sinüs hacimleri ve yüzey alanları ile unilateral dudak damak yarıklı bireylerin maksiller sinüslerinin hacimleri ve yüzey alanlarının karşılaştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada 30 unilateral dudak damak yarıklı hasta ile 30 sağlıklı ve sendromsuz bireyin Konik Işınlı Bilgisayarlı Tomografi görüntüleri kullanılmıştır. Kontrol grubu KIBT görüntüleri herhangi bir diş tedavisi nedeniyle alınmış olan retrospektif görüntülerden seçilmiştir. Kontrol grubu oluşturulurken çalışma grubuna uyumlu olacak şekilde yaş ve cinsiyet tercihinde bulunulmuştur. Dicom görüntüler, Simplant Pro 16 yazılımında değerlendirilerek hacim ve yüzey alanı ölçümleri aynı standartlarda yapılarak kaydedilmiştir. Bulgular: Grupların cinsiyet ve yaş dağılımları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark yoktur. Hasta grubunun yaş ortalaması (13.4) ve kontrol grubunda yaş ortalaması (15.3) olarak bulunmuştur. Gruplar arası karşılaştırmada ise UDDY'li bireylerin 23 tanesinde sol taraf yarık hattı olup 7 tanesinde yarık hattı sağ tarafta izlenmiştir. Çalışma ve kontrol grubu arasında sağ maksiller sinus hacminin anlamlı bir değişim göstermemiştir. (p=0.178). Ancak sol maksiller sinus hacim değerleri kontrol grubunda daha yüksek bulundu ve anlamlı bir fark görülmüştür. (p=0.01). Maksiller sinüs alanı ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında, sol maksiller sinus alanı kontrol grubunda hasta grubundan anlamlı bir farkla yüksek bulunmuştur. (p=0.046) Sonuç: Dudak damak yarıklı hastalarda maksiller sinüs hacminin ve yüzey alanının sağlıklı bireye göre daha düşük olması maksiller sinüs bölgesindeki preoperatif ve postoperatif cerrahi işlemler önem arz etmektedir.

Aim:The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the volume of healthy maxillary sinuses by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and Methods:The maxillary sinus volumes of healthy and entirely visible on the CBCT scan of patients over 18 years of age were evaluated bilaterally using NNT Viewer volumetric software (CeflaGroup, Verona, Italy). The images with pathologic changes in one or both maxillary sinuses were excluded. The study included 200 healthy maxillary sinuses of 100 patients (65 female and 35 male) aged between 19 to 85 years with a mean age of 44.13±16.36 years. The status of the dentition in the posterior maxilla in regards to the maxillary sinus was classified as dentate, partially dentate and edentulous. Differences in volume based on gender, age, sinus side, and dental status were analyzed statistically. Results: There were 104 (52%) dentate sinuses and 76 (38%) partially dentate and 20 (10%) edentulous sinuses. Males had significantly larger maxillary sinus volumes compared to females (p<0.05). There was an inverse and rather weak (15%) but statistically significant relationship between age and sinus volume (p<0.05). There was no difference in volume between the right and left sinuses and dental status showed no differences in sinus volume (p<0.05). Conclusion:Gender and age influence healthy maxillary sinus volume, while sinus side and dental status do not. Although it has been reported that the maxillary sinus volume increases throughout life after removal of the posterior teeth in the upper jaw, we found in our study that tooth loss was not associated with the ongoing pneumatization of the maxillary sinus. To validate this finding, there is a need for prospective studies comparing sinus volumes using standard time intervals before and after tooth extraction in the posterior maxilla.

Objective: This study examined the impact of nasal septum deviation on the volumes of four pairs of paranasal sinuses: sinus frontalis, sinus maxillaris, sinus sphenoidalis, and cellulae ethmoidales. These cavities are formed by the invagination of the nasal mucosa into bones and vary greatly in shape and size. Their location is crucial in the pathogenesis of regional diseases, and anatomical variations are frequently observed in humans. Computed Tomography imaging provides excellent soft tissue differentiation, which is essential for diagnosing sinonasal disorders. Cavalieri’s principle enables rapid and accurate measurement of sinus volumes using sectional images. The aim of our study was to retrospectively examine the impact of nasal septum deviation on paranasal sinus volumes in relation to age and gender. Material and Method: The study reviewed computed tomography images of participants who visited Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital using The Picture Archiving and Communication System. A total of 281 participants, comprising 151 women and 130 men, were included in the study. The participants were divided into four age groups: 0–17, 18–45, 46–65, and over 65. The computed tomography images related to the paranasal sinuses were listed, and the interior of the volume to be measured was colored using ImageJ software. The volume of each sinus was calculated using Cavalieri’s principle. Results: Upon examination of all sinuses, it was observed that men had larger sinus volumes than women (p0.05). Conclusion: Quantitatively measuring the volumes of paranasal sinuses in a short period and determining their relationship with nasal septum deviation will facilitate surgical planning in the future. It may provide some advantages for surgeons.
