Retrospective Evaluation of Patient Compliance in Continuous Oxygen Therapy

Abstract: Background: Prescription of continuous oxygen therapy (COT) for correct indications, adequate education of the patients, and a regular and sufficient oxygen intake are essential. Objective: To evaluate the indications of COT prescriptions in six different centers around Istanbul and patient compliance. Methods: The initial data of the cases were taken from hospital records and throughout the study personal visits were done as well as arterial blood gas (ABG) analyses. Results: 86 patients out of 110 (78.1%) we… Show more

“…Fear of dependency was a recurring theme. Authors make reference to patients not using prescribed oxygen due to their fear of addiction 52 and the perception that others have of them whilst wearing the oxygen in public, ‘Wearing an oxygen cannula just looks like someone addicted to drugs…’. 34 This can be related to non-compliance, with reports of 20% of patients using oxygen for fewer hours than prescribed as a result of fear of addiction.…”

“…Whereas enzymes are available for the enantiocomplementary synthesis of a broad range of symmetrical and mixed aliphatic, araliphatic, and aromatic products,2 so far no biocatalyst is available to selectively access ( S )‐benzoins starting from benzaldehydes. Instead, other enzymatic routes became available, which involve kinetic resolution as well as deracemization of rac ‐ benzoins,3 or asymmetric reduction of 1,2‐diarylethane‐1,2‐diones (benzils) 4. Although these approaches are mostly characterized by high stereoselectivity, they all share the same drawback: the racemic or prochiral starting material must be chemically synthesized beforehand.…”
