Retrospective analysis of changes in response topographies of escape‐maintained aggressive behavior during functional analyses

Abstract: We observed changes in the rates of response topographies during the demand condition of functional analyses for participants who demonstrated problem behavior maintained by escape. Over the course of the functional analysis for each participant, the number of topographies decreased from the first to the last session. Additionally, after the first session of the demand condition the rate of responding for one topography increased or remained at high levels while the rates of all other topographies decreased. “…Por último, padecer problemas dentales o de deglución pueden ser otra cau-sa de los problemas en la alimentación (Autism Speaks, 2014). Tales variables pueden a su vez interactuar con otras de tipo ambiental que mantengan el rechazo a la comida, incluso cuando los problemas médicos se atiendan (Hernández, Fernand, Vollmer y Slocum, 2018).…”

“…Subsequently, we continued to consider within‐session patterns of responding but based our final conclusions on overall rates of the target behavior across sessions of the FA. This was done because although increases in behavior during a given test condition are usually indicative of a reinforcement effect, at times decreasing trends occurred because the participant's responding became more efficient under a fixed ratio schedule (Eckerman & Lanson, 1969; Hernández et al, 2018). During the FA, at least two BCBAs evaluated response patterns and response rates in real time to make decisions about the next step; however, final decisions about behavioral function and correspondence between the no‐interaction screening and FA outcomes were made by a panel of BCBAs and BCBA‐Ds consisting of no fewer than five people.…”
