“…Initially we required four trocars, but recently we have found three ports to be sufficient for this operation. Operative time, blood loss and rate of open conversion were similar to those methods in previous reports as shown in table 1 [5][6][7][8][9]. No complication occurred in our series.…”

“…Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy via the retroperitoneal approach has several advantages compared with the procedure via the transperitoneal approach, including early ligation of the renal vessels and decreased likelihood of intestinal complications, although the working space obtained with it is smaller. Several techniques for laparoscopic radical nephrectomy via the retroperitoneal approach have been developed up to the present [5][6][7][8][9], and our technique is based on that introduced by Gill et al [7]. Initially we required four trocars, but recently we have found three ports to be sufficient for this operation.…”

“…Moreover, transperitoneal surgery itself could result in intraperitoneal adhesion which is not desirable for future peritoneal dialysis for ESRD patients or other abdominal operation. Retroperitoneal LRN approach has been shown to be a safe treatment modality for renal masses in ESRD patients 13 . Venous CO 2 embolism is a recognized risk during laparoscopic procedures.…”

“…Weitere Komplikationen wurden nicht genannt. Trotz der geringen Patientenzahl wurde auch in dieser Serie die prinzipielle Machbarkeit des laparoskopischen Eingriffs bei niereninsuffizienten Patienten bestätigt [22]. An der eigenen Klinik haben wir über die Ergebnisse der Laparoskopie sowohl beim dialysepflichtigen Patienten als auch beim nierentransplantierten Patienten berichtet [10,13,14].…”
