[Retracted] Foreign Direct Investment, Regional Innovation, and Green Economic Efficiency: An Empirical Test Based on the Investigation of Intermediary Effect and Threshold Effect

Abstract: Based on the theoretical mechanism analysis of FDI, regional innovation, and green economic efficiency, this article uses China’s provincial panel data to calculate the provincial green economic efficiency level based on the three-stage DEA method and uses the system GMM model, intermediary effect model, and threshold model to empirically test the specific effects and transmission paths of FDI on the efficiency of the green economy. Research shows that FDI is one of the important factors that promote the impro… Show more

“…According to the existing research on green economic efficiency and the fact that China has entered a new normal, the environmental carrying capacity has reached or is close to the upper limit [ 52 ]. Considering the existing research results [ 11 , 14 , 19 , 22 , 32 , 33 , 53 ] and the availability and accuracy of data, energy, labor, and capital were selected as input elements. Meanwhile, regional GDP, industrial wastewater, industrial sulfur dioxide, and industrial smoke and dust were chosen as outputs.…”

“…Thirdly, the mutual choice and integration between the regional government and green economic efficiency were deeply discussed and studied, including the hot issue of environmental regulation [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ], fiscal decentralization [ 20 ], local government competition [ 21 ], and policy uncertainties and market integration [ 22 , 23 ]. Other influencing factors of green economic efficiency studied were as follows: technology imports and innovation [ 24 , 25 , 26 ], human capital [ 27 ], urbanization [ 28 ], resource structure and consumption [ 29 , 30 , 31 ], foreign direct investment [ 32 ], digital economy [ 33 ], etc. Many useful conclusions have been drawn.…”

“…Due to the large differences in economic strength and policy conditions across regions in China, in order to verify whether there is regional heterogeneity in the empirical results, most previous studies have divided the classical economic regions based on the geographical location of each province, which in turn splits China into three major regions: the east, the center, and the west [ 78 ]. However, such division does not effectively reflect the economic differences among provinces.…”

“…To solve the problem of endogeneity and robustness, we lag the variable of HGD by one period, denoted as HGD it−1 , to construct the dynamic panel data model as [16,19] HGD…”

“…However, the current literature may still ignore the following considerations. First, previous studies have discussed a series of factors in improving HGD, focusing on environmental regulation [16][17][18], foreign direct investment [19], and industrial structure upgrading [20]; and some scholars have also conducted studies by examining three variables [21][22][23]. However, to the best of our knowledge, our work incorporates the three variables, namely, TI, EIA, and HGD, into a unified framework under the construction of the " ree Places and One Zone" in the western YRD, which is an unexplored issue.…”
