“…26 Seyam et al showed statins such as simvastatin for 6 months by altering sex hormones and blood lipids improve ovulation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. 27 In the many sections of the ovary gland of BaP groups, we observed reduction in the kinds of follicles especially primordial follicles. These changes have a positive correlation with doses of BaP.…”

“…35,36 It was confirmed that Long-term Statins' treatment (Simvastatin, 20 mg daily for 6 months) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome increase progesterone. 27 We administered BaP to pregnant rats at doses 10 and 20 mg/kg and found that prenatal BaP exposure with the increase in MDA and the decrease in the GSH create stress oxidative in the girl offsprings.…”

“…Six studies included statin treatment with simvastatin (20 mg/day) [15,16,1921,24], two studies included treatment with atorvastatin (20 mg/day) [12,23], one study included atorvastatin (40 mg/day) [13], one study included treatment with rosuvastatin (10 mg/day) [22]. The duration of statin treatment in three studies was 24 weeks [2124], and in the remaining studies, the duration of treatment was 12 weeks or less than 12 weeks. “…Another diabetes medication, the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor saxagliptin also showed greater efficacy when combined with metformin versus either drug alone in a group of subjects with PCOS and pre-diabetes [89]. Two studies report that the β-Hydroxy β-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitor simvastatin, generally used for hyperlipidemia and protection from atherosclerotic heart disease, was found to be effective in improving ovarian morphology and cardiometabolic parameters as monotherapy [90] and in combination with metformin [91]. As statins have been linked to increased incidence of type 2 diabetes [92], further understanding of short and long-term effects on glucose metabolism in PCOS are required.…”
