RETRACTED ARTICLE: Cyto-histopathological and outcome features of the prepuce squamous cell carcinoma of a mixed breed dog

Abstract: BackgroundSquamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are uncommon, high-grade tumors, predominantly composed of round cells in the prepuce. The aim of this study is to better define the clinicopathologic features of this neoplasm.Case reportWe conducted cyto-histopathologic analysis on the manifestations of the prepuce SCC by H & E staining in a terrier mix dog. Grossly, tumor was large, multiple erythematous patch, and ulcerated masses frequently affecting the prepuce and deeply invading to distal prepuce out from the v… Show more

“…In the present case, the histopathological features observed were focal areas of keratin (keratin pearls), concentric aggregation of cornified squamous epithelial cells (horn pearl), massive undifferentiated tumour cells at different stages of mitosis (anisocytosis and anisokaryosis) and presence of inflammatory cells (Plate II). These are typical findings in metastatic tumour of squamous cells in horses as described for preputial sheath SCC case in mixed breed dog by Manesh et al (2014). This, therefore, confirms the diagnosis of SCC.…”

“…However, there are reports of adenocarcinoma affecting the feline mammary glands (Amorim et al, 2004), intestine (Queiroz et al, 2017), apocrine/salivary glands (Fujiwara-Igarashi et al, 2017), prostate (Tursi et al, 2008), and uterus (Saraiva et al, 2015). In addition, there are also reports of neoplasms affecting the foreskin of dogs (Yaghoobi Yeganeh Manesh et al, 2014;Auler et al, 2014) and horses (Chacur et al, 2014).…”

“…Cytology is a fast, relatively inexpensive, and non-invasive diagnostic examination, but only some types of tumors, such as lipomas and melanomas, can be diagnosed cytological analysis without any other methodologies (Alencar & Campos, 2017). Histopathological examination is essential to establish a definitive diagnosis and provide information regarding the extent of the neoplasia in deeper tissues (Yaghoobi Yeganeh Manesh et al, 2014).…”
