“…This produced a satisfactory reduction in tumor size, which made surgical resection possible in previously inoperable cases, and the toxicity was acceptable. These patients attained a superior survival compared to those receiving only conventional therapy (4). Color Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have been tested as evaluators and predictors of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) (5,6), but the results are still controversial.…”

“…It is worthwhile to note that only one patient had microscopic disease at parametria despite seven of these impressed clinically with parametrial disease. This lack of correspondence between clinical and pathological parametrial infiltration has already been observed (27) , and this suggested that response to chemo-therapy follows a centripetal pattern, meaning that all cases responding at the primary tumor have parametrial response. Thus, the clinical suspicion of parametrial disease should not contraindicate a radical hysterectomy.…”

“…The results of Panici et al (14) obtained in stages IB-111 with chemotherapy (cisplatin, methorexate and bleomycin) and followed by surgery in responders showed CR in 10 cases (16'%1) and PR in 42 (68%) at histologic examination. High response rates were also reported with VBP (vinblastine, bleomycin and cisplatin) in stages IB and 11 (15,16). A relationship between chemotherapy failures and radioresistance has been observed.…”
