Responsive mechanism of 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole-based two-photon fluorescent probes for zinc and hydroxide ions

Abstract: Response theory is used to investigate one- and two-photon absorption (TPA) as well as the emission properties of a series of potential zinc ion and pH sensitive materials containing 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole (HPBO) end groups. Special emphasis is placed on the evolution of their optical properties upon combining with zinc ions or deprotonation. Our calculated results indicate that upon combining with zinc ions or deprotonation, these HPBO derivatives show drastic changes in their one-photon absorption (… Show more

“…(2 ) / 3 [37], where f and denote the excited energy of the state |f > and electric dipole moment operator in the direction  respectively, OPA strength is dominated by the transition dipole moment between the ground state and the excited state. Calculated transition dipole moments for P1, P2, and P3 are 3.17, 3.56, and 3.91 Debye in vacuum, respectively.…”

“…g (ω) is the spectral line profile, which is assumed to be a δ function here, and Γ f is level broadening of the final state, which is taken as a typical value of 0.1 eV [ 28 ]. δ tpa is the orientational averaging value of the TPA probability [ 27 ].…”
