Resonant frequency and radiation efficiency of meander line antennas

Abstract: SUMMARYOne of the approaches to reducing the size of halfwavelength linear dipole antennas is the meander dipole antenna, where the elements form a meander line. This paper presents a formula for the relationship between the geometrical size and the resonant frequency of the meander line dipole antenna, and a calculation formula for the radiative efficiency is derived from the result. It is shown that the geometrical parameters of the meander line dipole antenna can be determined from the specified radiative e… Show more

“…4a). In this approach, the inductance of the meander line, which consists of a line (creating a chain) of the letter-C shape is calculated [7,10]. Next, the inductance of the straight line connecting all contours is added, in order to obtain the total inductance of the antenna.…”

“…The antenna also contains other lines that do not fall under the parallel line definition. The design of a Hilbert IFA can proceed based on the inductance equivalence concept introduced in [26]. This requires computing the inductance of the Hilbert antenna using simple formulas.…”

“…A MLA is constructed by continuously folding a conventional monopole/dipole antenna, which can also be printed on a dielectric substrate as a planar form. The resonant frequency and radiation efficiency of MLA can be approximately determined from the geometrical parameters using the equivalent model of a linear dipole antenna with inductive loading [11][12][13]. However, this conventional MLA exhibits a narrow impedance bandwidth and sensitive impedance matching [10,12].…”
