This paper is concerned with the issue of finite-time H ∞ load frequency control for power systems with actuator faults. Concerning various disturbances, the actuator fault is modeled by a homogeneous Markov chain. The aperiodic sampling data controller is designed to alleviate the conservatism of attained results. Based on a new piecewise Lyapunov functional, some novel sufficient criteria are established, and the resulting power system is stochastic finite-time bounded. Finally, a single-area power system is adjusted to verify the effectiveness of the attained results.

Summary This paper studies the distributed load frequency control problems for the multi‐area interconnected power system in smart grid. Compared with current results, we develop a new model transformation for traditional interconnected systems with unknown communication time delays and uncertainties. The load frequency control problem becomes the state synchronization problem of multi‐agent system (MAS) consisting of linear double‐integrator system with uncertainties and delays. Then, the H∞ distributed controller is designed based on the new MAS model, which weakens the impact of communication delays, parametric uncertainties, and load disturbance. Meanwhile, the proposed distributed controller only needs its neighbors' information and some rough information about the communication network to achieve the frequency's synchronization. In addition, the power flow in the power system can achieve the power scheduling and peak regulation with the changes of each area's load, which can cause unacceptable frequency deviation. The switching topologies are used to express this new power flow distribution. The corresponding distributed controllers are designed to achieve the frequency's synchronization. Finally, simulation result shows the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This article addresses the H ∞ load frequency control problem for multiarea power systems. In order to reduce the heavy burden of the communication channel and relieve the impact caused by the actuator failures, an event-triggered mechanism and a fault-tolerant strategy are adopted, simultaneously. The main purpose is to design a controller so that the multiarea power systems are asymptotically stable in the case of actuator failures and communication delays. On the basis of the Lyapunov stability theory, some sufficient criteria for ensuring the stability of the synthesized system with an expected H ∞ performance are obtained. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method are demonstrated via an illustrative example.
