Degradation of coastal environment that occurs in parts of Indonesia's coastal areas is generally caused by erosion, climate change, development, and loss of mangrove forests. This degradation also has an impact on the reduction of the land area inhabited by the community. Bedono Village in Sayung District, Demak Regency, Central Java is one of the areas with the worst conditions, where a third of its area was lost due to tidal floods. One alternative solution that can be done is to restore the function of mangroves in a sustainable manner which is carried out on a local basis and inclusive awareness. This paper aims to discuss the concept of conscientization from Paulo Freire which emphasizes the presence of consistency and inclusiveness as the fruit of full self-awareness to solve the problem of the decrease of the quality of the coastal environment and the reduce of Indonesia's coastal areas. The research approach used is qualitative and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). PRA is used to map the problems and potentials of coastal communities and children's groups, including the local wisdom values of the community. The data collection technique uses interviews, observation, documentation, and group discussions from August to November 2021. Through a socio-cultural approach, and collaboration with formal and informal educational institutions, the result of this study can be a repressive and preventive model in alleviating environmental problems, especially coastal problems. By formulating and applying the Paulo Freire consientizacio model based on local potential, it was found that the reconstruction of mangrove conservation education was able to build children's critical and transformative awareness that would be able to solve problems in coastal areas. Based on an inclusive mangrove literacy approach, the application of education is targeted at the children of this generation as conservation agents capable of caring for and innovating to improve the environment with awareness that has been formed through mangrove literacy education from an early age.

Cities have a high vulnerability to climate change. Rising sea levels that cause tidal flooding frequently happen in coastal cities, damaging the environment. People lost their houses and occupation, making them powerless. This research aims to identify the adaptation strategy used by urban communities in coastal cities to survive environmental problems due to climate change. This research is located in Tambak Lorok in Semarang City and Bedono in Demak Regency. Qualitative research was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the adaptation strategy of urban coastal communities. Data were collected by interviews, observation, and literature study. The results show that environmental problems that occurred because of climate change are one complication of serious problems, but it is worsened by construction projects as a part of urban development. The two communities have similar but different strategies for survival in that situation. While the people of Tambak Lorok in Semarang City do not have any other better option than accepting the relocation, the people of Bedono in Demak Regency rely on mangroves to protect their settlements. This result concludes that although urban coastal communities have their adaptation strategies, they need long-term solutions from local governments and other parties to live without worry.

Fishermen on the north coast of Semarang City are a vulnerable community group. This is because the level of education and the economy is low, so efforts are needed to empower them. Tilapia cultivation is one of the efforts to develop the economy and empower small fishing communities in Tambak Rejo. This research aims to find out and to analyze Fishermen's Participation through Tilapia Fish Farming Business so that the welfare of life increases. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. In addition, Participatory Action Research (PAR) is also used to conduct research that is simultaneously coupled with real action in the community. The results of this study are 1) Most of the people of Tambak Rejo Semarang are included in the lower middle class category, so there needs to be empowerment efforts for the Tambak Rejo fishing community in order to improve their quality of life; 2) Tilapia fish farming is an alternative model for empowering small fishermen which aims to provide skills and encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship. 3) The problem faced by Tambak Rejo fishermen is the lack of community participation from fishing groups in the planning stage, resulting in the inhibition of the implementation of the program. In addition, technical constraints both internally and externally; 4) The strategy for empowering small fishermen in Tambak Rejo is carried out by facilitating the growth of awareness and participation of the small fishermen community, encouraging their independence, and developing collaborative plans with various parties.
