Research on the Rheological Characteristics of Wind Power Grease Based on Rheological Parameters

Abstract: Our research scrutinizes the impact of grease rheological properties on the lubrication performance of wind turbine spindle bearings. The rheological behavior of three distinct commercial wind turbine greases was examined with a rotational rheometer. Investigations into the viscoelastic, flow, and viscosity–temperature attributes of the grease under varying temperatures were conducted, and the rheological parameters were fitted utilizing the Herschel–Bulkley (H–B) model. Constitutive equations of the grease de… Show more

“…In contrast, at low temperatures, the fluidity of the gel-state grease is weakened, and the flow point strain value is increased, which may lead to excessive viscosity and affect the start-up and normal operation of the wind turbine. According to the survey, it is known that the standard operating temperature range of wind turbines is usually between −20 • C and 80 • C, and the operating temperature of bearings during operation does not exceed 80 • C [38]. Therefore, the temperature measurement points chosen in this paper are −20 • C, 30 • C, and 80 • C. In the dynamic oscillation test, the control angular velocity was kept constant at 10 rad/s and the shear strain ranged from 0.1% to 100%.…”

“…The speed of bearing rotation significantly impacts the lifespan of the grease [112]. The higher rotation speeds increase the shear stress on the grease, which can damage its fibrous structure and shorten its lifespan [113,114]. Different bearings have varying speed limits, and a speed factor is often used to compare them.…”
