E-commerce or electronic commerce has been growing rapidly in the past few decades and advancements in smartphones and computers has only boosted them further. With the large volume of orders and the dynamic environment surrounding it, there is a need of proper inventory management. The key to effective inventory management is having the appropriate inventory on hand at the appropriate time, in the appropriate quantity, and at the appropriate location and price.Creating an efficient ecommerce inventory management system is one of the most important aspects of running a successful business. Inventory management entails warehousing, delivery, stocking of various goods in such a way that its cost effective and at the same time provides a seamless experience for the customer. The advancement of inventory management is highly upgraded with the help of high technologies, artificial intelligence and the proper data software which is driven by the need for greater efficiency and accuracy. In this paper we have tried to review the selected literature on the use of various methods such as VMI in inventory management and warehousing.We have also analysed the efficiency of various processes that have been used during various parts of the supply chain in e-commerce. The paper also focuses on the various problems that exist in the inventory management as well as supply chain logistics and tries to review the same.

Effect of intelligent logistics transformation announcements on shareholder value: Evidence from Chinese listed firms

This study empirically examines the impact of the intelligent logistics transformation (ILT) announcement on companies' shareholder value. The market model is used to estimate abnormal return. ILT inspires a significantly positive average (median) market response on the announcement day. There is a strong relationship between the announcing firm features like industry features and abnormal returns. The announcement features like investment direction of ILT also affect the market response. In addition, an interesting finding is that firms with worse prior financial performance than the industry level will receive a more positive market response when they conduct ILT by establishing an information platform.

The performance of logistics becomes even more relevant in e-commerce, demanding high specialization. Considering the lack of instruments in the literature to assess the logistics system related to online shopping experience, the objective of this quantitative research was to develop and validate a rating scale of e-commerce. The results constitute a preliminary diagnosis that can support managers of electronic commerce to take better decisions related to logistics service level. It is important, considering that this type of decisions usually involves high amounts of money and not always the investments in logistics are perceived by customers. Besides, the rating scale of e-commerce considering logistics aspects, developed and validated in this research, can aid managers to design strategies and to take decisions that optimize the logistics activities and the shopping experience in e-commerce.
