“…Besides the residual stress and the roughness, the hardness also plays an important role to measure the surface integrity and has a signi cant effect on the fatigue strength and wear resistance of workpieces [16]. Sun et al [17] presented a new hybrid model to investigate the dynamic hardness distribution with the grinding force and the model was validated by the measurement of the ground workpiece's hardness via grinding experiments under different grinding depths. Zhou et al [18] established the one-dimensional analytic model for surface microhardness in terms of grinding speed, grinder work-table feed speed, grinding depth, incline angle, and de ection angle as process parameters in quick-point grinding ceramics through immune algorithms and orthogonal experiment data.…”

“…(10) Several researchers proposed models to determine the temperature distribution in hardened layers of 40Cr and 45 steel with segmented triangular heat sources. (11)(12)(13)(14) Huang and coworkers found a way to minimize the use of lubricants for grind hardening with variable grinding forces for the AISI 5140 alloy metal. (15)(16)(17) These results provide the information required to improve grind hardening to achieve a higher efficiency and a more environmentally friendly manufacturing process.…”

“…Pre-stress hardening grinding (PSHG) is a compound grinding technology which can not only harden a workpiece surface, but also control residual stress [1]. The results of experiments indicated that the workpiece surface can obtain a hardening layer with excellent surface integrity after the PSHG process, and therefore has an advantage over traditional grinding and heat treatment [2,3,4]. The metallic materials with lower stacking fault energy generally include the stage of work hardening (WH) and dynamic softening (induced by dynamic recrystallization (DRX)) during hot deformation.…”
