Analysing growth and nutrient accumulation is generally employed for guiding the fertilisation practices in the seedling-production chain. In the production of peach rootstock, such evaluations can provide information to aid can to aid in discrimination available genotypes, especially regarding the efficient use and conversion of fertiliser into dry matter, which can reduce the time required to obtain plants suitable for grafting. The aim of this study, was to investigate the differences in growth and nutrient accumulation in three peach-rootstock cultivars. A completely randomised experimental design was used, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, including three peach rootstocks ('Flordaguard', 'Capdeboscq' and 'Okinawa Roxo') and four periods of growth evaluation (20, 40, 60 and 80 days after transplanting - DAT), giving a total of 12 treatments, with four replications, one for each plant. The Flordaguard and Capdeboscq cultivars showed greater height and stem diameter as well as a greater accumulation of total dry matter at 80 DAT, and both followed the distribution: leaves (67%) > roots (33%), while total dry-matter production in 'Okinawa Roxo' was less, following the order: leaves (71%) > roots (29%). The rootstock under evaluation showed variations in growth, confirmed by the physiological indices, except for the leaf area and specific leaf area. In general, macronutrient accumulation in the shoots and roots of the cultivars during each growth period was different, suggesting intrinsic differences in each of the genetic materials regarding nutrient demand for maintaining the metabolic processes which are vital to plant growth.

Para garantizar el éxito del cultivo de durazno, es conveniente utilizar portainjertos de calidad y bien adaptados al lugar de establecimiento. En el presente estudio se evaluó el crecimiento y calidad de las plantas de Prunus spp. que se establecieron en diferentes sustratos orgánicos, para seleccionarse como portainjerto. Las semillas se recolectaron durante julio y agosto del 2021 en Latuvi, Santa Catarina Lachatao, Oaxaca, y se colocaron en refrigeración a 5 °C hasta su germinación, entre los 53 y 62 días. Se estableció un diseño completamente al azar y arreglo factorial 4x4, esto es, factor genotipo de durazno: de pulpa amarilla, prisco de pulpa blanca, pulpa blanca y chapeado de pulpa blanca; factor sustrato: suelo 100%, suelo 60% + gallinaza 40%, suelo 60% + estiércol bovino 40%, y suelo 60% + tierra de monte 40%. El genotipo de durazno prisco de pulpa blanca mostró significativamente valores más altos en las variables morfológicas a los 255 días después de la siembra: altura de 76.87 cm, diámetro de tallo (a 10 cm de altura) 7.28 mm. Los genotipos de durazno de pulpa amarilla, prisco de pulpa blanca y chapeado de pulpa blanca se clasificaron de alta calidad morfológica. El genotipo de durazno de pulpa blanca se clasificó de calidad media. El sustrato de suelo con gallinaza benefició significativamente a las plantas en todas las variables, reflejando plantas de alta calidad morfológica. Es posible utilizar el genotipo de durazno prisco de pulpa blanca como portainjerto, ya que sobresalió en crecimiento y calidad.

To reduce peach tree losses due the Peach Tree Short Life (PTSL), the main research line in Brazil is to select tolerant rootstock and perpetuate it by cloning methods. The objective was to evaluate adventitious rooting capacity of softwood cuttings of three cultivars and several clonal rootstock selections of Prunus spp., under intermittent mist system. Two trials were conducted and 'Capdeboscq', 'Okinawa' (P. persica) and 'Sharpe' ['Chickasaw' (P. angustifolia Marsh.) x Prunus spp.] were used as reference cultivars. After 53 days (trial 1) and 72 days (trial 2) from the cutting setting, we conclude that softwood cuttings under intermittent mist system are a feasible way to propagate peach rootstock selections of 2010/2011 PTSL selection cycle. Root quality was satisfactory in most selections, with high percentages of cuttings suitable for transplanting and excellent root number and root length. OS-GRA-10-17, VEH-GRA-10-31, VEH-GRA-10-32, VEH-GRA-10-37 and VEH-GRA-10-38 selections had the highest mortality and the lower percentages of live rooted cuttings. The ease of vegetative propagation must be taken into account in more promising rootstock.
