Requirements for a knowledge management framework to be used in software intensive organizations

Abstract: The Project "GPS: A platform to model, reuse and measure software process management (TIN-2004-0783)" (funded by Spanish government) has as the main goal to make a tool that helps software engineers satisfy effective practices as they have been defined by most wellknown international institutions such us ISO, SEI[20] and PMI [21]. The purpose of this article is to show the initial phase results of the GPS project. These results were obtained from experience gained by a research team using the most important s… Show more

“…It is also worth mentioning another interesting SPEM extension intended to represent knowledge in an explicit way [30] by using additional attributes in the meta-model. Finally, other extensions are proposed to include capabilities to evaluate software processes, considering models of best practices such as CMMI [31,32]. SPEM 2.0 is defined as a Meta-Object Facility-based meta-model as well as a UML 2 profile.…”

“…Several papers address frameworks [29,[35][36][37][38][39][40] to support KM in software engineering. The experience factory (EF) is one of the first KM initiatives in software engineering; it is a framework for improving software quality by reusing different types of experiences.…”

“…This is a framework aligned with the organisational structures and business processes [37]. The PM‐Cake is a framework that enables individuals to transfer knowhow from a post‐mortem review to the company and propose best practices [38]. The Practice Selection Framework, an EF approach, enables to capture and reuse experience through the use of post‐mortem reviews [35, 36].…”

“…For instance, how to reuse experiences from dealing with nonfunctional requirements is very pragmatically described in [9]. Most references, however, are still more on the theoretic side than answering practical questions from day-today project business [4,8,10,11,14,21]. Applicability and actual application in industry-scale application development and solutions integration are not always evident in many of the above-mentioned research papers.…”

“…An initial framework for KM needs from a software engineering viewpoint had been proposed by Martinez et al [14]. This study helps in determining an enterprise's position versus a generic framework of potential requirements.…”
