Reputation and Trust Approach for Security and Safety Assurance in Intersection Management System

Abstract: Crossroads are the main traffic jam generators in densely populated cities. Unmanned vehicles and intelligent transportation systems can significantly reduce congestion and improve road safety by eliminating the main cause of traffic accidents—the human factor. However, full confidence in their safety is necessary. This paper addresses the contextual data integrity problem, when an unmanned autonomous vehicle transmits incorrect data due to technical problems, or malicious attacks. We propose an approach based… Show more

“…Papers studying Reputation-based data security techniques may offer different approaches to calculate these metrics. In [15] the authors suggest calculating the trust indicator in the range from -1 to 1, as in [7], we proposed to calculate the Reputation and Trust indicators in the range from 0 to 1. In the present paper, we use the calculus described in [7] and improve it with the Game Theory-based approach.…”

“…Earlier in study [7] we proposed and physically implemented the Reputation and Trustbased approach for AVs security and safety assurance in the intersection management system. To address the initial Reputation value calculation challenge, in [8] we provided the mechanism based on Game Theory fundamentals, which allows to calculate this value relying on objective indicators.…”

“…Conventional or traditional trust management models are defined as widely accepted frameworks that function without requiring complex data analysis or statistical inference tools. In this subsection, recent research employing traditional trust management models has been discussed in detail [69][70][71][72][73].…”

“…Chuprov et al [73] proposed a scheme to mitigate traffic management issues on the crossroads by identifying the vehicles sending illegitimate messages, wherein three parameters, truth, reputation, and trust, each having a value within [0,1], are computed to assess the legitimacy of the data sent by vehicles. Truth being the opinion regarding the legitimacy of the message exchanged by vehicles, reputation is defined as the temporal function of the truth value, and trust is the weighted aggregation of both of the above stated parameters.…”
