This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of anestrus problems in dairy cows associated with managemental factors such as housing system, feed quality, deworming and health management of dairy cows. Data were collected by interviewing the owner of the cows using questionnaires from selected private dairy farms and Rajshahi Dairy and Cattle Improvement Farm (RDCIF) at Rajshahi district during the period from January 2016 to December 2016. A total of 500 dairy cows were surveyed to find out the prevalence of anestrus problems in relation to housing system,feed quality,deworming and health management of cows. The raw data were then sorted, computed, coded and statistically analyzed with the help of latest version of SPSS statistics software package. Our findings revealed that, the overall prevalence of anestrus in cows was 40.2%. The housing system, feed quality, deworming and health management of cows influenced the prevalence of anestrus in cows. The prevalence of anestrus was the highest in poor housing system (45.16%) and the lowest in good housing system (36.17%). The prevalence of anestrus was not significantly (P>0.05) influenced by the housing systems. Good quality of feed showed the lowest occurrence of anestrus problems (28.82%) and poor quality of feed showed the highest occurrence of anestrus problems (78.72%). The prevalence of anestrus in dairy cows was significantly (P<0.05) influenced by the feed quality of cows. It was observed that the incidence of anestrus was higher in no deworming measure of farm (56.96%) and lower was in regular deworming measure of farm (29.64%). The prevalence of anestrus was higher in no preventive measure of dairy cows (50.95%) and lower was in regular preventive measure of dairy cows (29.92%). Deworming and preventive measures had also significant (P<0.05) effect on anestrus problems in dairy cows.

The objective of this study was to know the herd and animal level prevalence of Q fever in domestic ruminants in some selected districts in Bangladesh. Randomly collected 111 bulk milk and 94 sera samples of cattle, sheep, and goats were tested by indirect ELISA (iELISA). DNA extracted from 23 aborted fetal membranes was analyzed by real time (rt) PCR. The positive cut-off value of iELISA in bulk milk and individual animal sera was ≥30% and ≥40%, respectively. The overall herd level prevalence of Q fever in dairy cattle was 15.6%. The prevalence of Q fever in dairy cattle was significantly higher in Sirajganj in comparison to Satkhira District (P < 0.01). The overall seroprevalence of Q fever in domestic ruminants was 5.06%. Although statistically insignificant, the seroprevalence of Q fever was relatively higher in sheep (9.52%) in comparison to goats (3.33%) and cattle (3.57%). Out of 23 aborted fetal membranes, only one sheep placenta was positive in rt PCR. Q fever is present in all of the three important species of domestic ruminants in Bangladesh. It may have some role in sheep abortion as the seroprevalence is relatively higher and also one sheep placenta is rt PCR positive.

A cross-sectional study by employing a questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the prevalence of major reproductive disorders in dairy cattle and its associated risk factors in and around Bale Robe town from November 2016 to April 2017. Out of 384 dairy cows which were under investigation, 254 (66.15%) had encountered at least one of the reproductive disorders. The major reproductive disorders recorded with high prevalence in the present study included mastitis (20.57%), repeat breeder (17.71%), retained fetal membrane (6.51%), uterine and vaginal prolapse (5.47%), and abortion (4.1%), whereas reproductive problems with lower incidence rate included dystocia, anestrus, hypocalcaemia, uterine discharge, and stillbirth accounting 3.91%, 1.82%, 1.30%, 1.04%, and 0.78%, respectively. The overall incidence of reproductive disorders in this study showed statistical significance ( p < 0.05 ) with respect to body condition, age of the animals, production system, and mating system. However, this finding indicated that occurrence of reproductive problems shows statistical insignificance compared to breed, parity, and hygiene of the farm. The prevalence of reproductive disorders in extensive management system (91.02%) was higher than intensive (64.58%) and semi-intensive (57.61%) management systems and also more in local breed (67.93%) than crossbreed (62.29%). However, the prevalence based on parity was higher in primiparous (71.05%) than pluriparous (64.07%) cows. In general, it is recommended that improvement in management system, proper selection of bull and appropriate timing of AI for breeding system, accurate heat detection, routine and periodical examination of cows, balanced feeding, and hygienic condition should be corrected to minimize the incidence of reproductive health disorders and associated risk factors in the study area.
