Reproducibility of blood flow velocity measurements using colour decoded Doppler imaging

Abstract: Background It is taken for granted that glaucomatous damage is caused by changed haemodynamics of the retrobulbar vessel system besides other factors such as, for example, an elevated intraocular pressure. This was proven by various studies in which glaucoma patients were shown to have a changed retrobulbar blood flow velocity. In this study, the reliability of measurements of retrobulbar vessel perfusion by colour decoded Doppler imaging (CDI) was evaluated.Patients and methods A total of 18 healthy volunteer… Show more

“…17 In our laboratory, we reach acceptable reproducibility of the CDI measurements by maximal standardization of the CDI procedure. 18 Compared to previous reports, the diameter of the OA as well as that of the CRA appears to be slightly overestimated. 10,19 In the article from Orge et al, the OA diameter was 2.0270.46 mm, and in our study, 2.2170.31 mm.…”

“…As a matter of fact, CDI devices are widely used in medicine and the technique has shown good reproducibility, after adequate training, even for measurements of retrobulbar blood flow velocity obtained by the same observer in the same patient [15,16].…”

“…Although it is an ultrasonographic procedure, reproducibility and repeatability of CDI is very high (Matthiessen et al 2004).…”
